Turn colleagues into a close-knit family with an in-company Dutch group course
Why an in-company Dutch group course is the best investment for your team
As an HR manager or team lead, you might be wondering: is a course like this really worth the investment? Let’s be honest, the job market is tight, especially in the tech and engineering sectors where we often work. Employees who feel at home stay longer. Various studies in HR and Learning & Development (such as annual reports from LinkedIn Learning) consistently show that investing in employees’ personal development can increase retention by as much as 94%. An in-company Dutch group course is one of the most effective ways to do this, because it kills two birds with one stone: personal growth and social bonding.
Why does this work so well? Because learning together brings people closer. Just imagine: the Senior Engineer who knows everything about Python is suddenly struggling alongside the new Marketing Intern over the pronunciation of “Scheveningen” or the “u” sound. In that moment, the hierarchy disappears. Everyone is a beginner again. This creates a safe environment (psychological safety) that is essential for a healthy team.
The result?

Fun game at Vesper
Greater understanding and enjoyment: Laughing together at language mistakes breaks down barriers and eases tension in the workplace.

Certification Time at IDH
Better informal communication: It’s not about speaking flawless Dutch, but about feeling comfortable enough to chat during lunch.

Laughing at TNW
Faster integration: International colleagues feel less like “guests” and more like part of the local culture, which increases their loyalty to your company.
Forget everything you know about language courses
Small groups, industry-specific content, and lessons your employees will actually remember
At More than Les, we don’t do things the traditional way, and that’s entirely intentional. No rows of desks. No conjugation drills. No role-plays about asking for directions to a library that nobody in the team wants to visit. We’re here for the doers, the engineers at the port, the developers at ASML, the hotel managers in Amsterdam, the pharmacists who need practical Dutch, not a linguistics degree.
Our certified instructors each bring over 10 years of experience, and crucially, they understand the business world. They know how to keep energy high, how to make people feel safe enough to speak up, and how to make a Monday evening lesson something your team actually looks forward to.
We keep groups small: eight people maximum, often fewer. In a group of fifteen, it’s easy to disappear. With us, everyone participates. Everyone speaks. And the content? It’s built entirely around your team.
Tech company? We’ll cover deploys, scrums, and stand-ups in Dutch. Hospitality? We’ll practise guest interactions, complaint handling, and small talk that actually sounds natural. Every scenario we use is drawn from real situations on real work floors, not outdated textbook dialogues from thirty years ago.
Progress isn’t just measured in tests. It’s measured in the moment someone cracks a joke in Dutch for the first time, holds their own in a meeting, or finally feels confident enough to speak up. That’s what we’re here for.
Checklist: How to choose the right in-company Dutch group course and / or training?
Because the wrong choice costs more than just money.
If you’re looking for the best provider of in-company Dutch lessons, it can be hard to see the forest for the trees. There are many providers, but the quality varies greatly. Use this checklist to ensure you make the right choice for your company:
- Teacher experience: Ask specifically about their experience. Are they students or certified teachers with 10+ years of experience (like ours)?
- Group size: Don’t accept groups larger than 10 people. For effective language instruction, 8 people is ideal.
- Customized or standard method: Is a textbook followed blindly, or is the content tailored to your industry (tech, pharma, hospitality)?
- Location and flexibility: Does the instructor come to your location? Is an in-company Dutch group course also available online if hybrid work is the norm?
- Atmosphere and culture: Does the provider align with your company culture? Is it formal and academic, or informal and focused on building confidence in speaking?
- Trial lesson or introductory session: Is there an opportunity to get a feel for the atmosphere before signing a contract?
At More than Les, we can check off all these points with a resounding “yes.” We believe in transparency and quality.
Why companies choose More than Les
At More than Les, we're not an institution. We're a partner.
We take the time to understand your company, your people, and what they need to succeed. That means lessons tailored to your workplace, flexible scheduling when priorities shift, and a personal approach that keeps employees engaged and motivated.
Unlike traditional language programmes, we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all learning. We adapt to your company culture, your ways of working, and the real-life situations your employees face every day.
We’re here to make Dutch learning easy, enjoyable, and relevant to everyday work life.
Our goal isn’t just to teach Dutch. It’s to help your team feel more at home, communicate with confidence, and make a bigger impact at work.
Customized Dutch lessons: From backend developer to hotel manager
Real-life Dutch lessons designed around your people, your workplace and your goals
No two companies are alike. That’s why we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all teaching methods. A Dutch course tailored to a specific industry is crucial for motivation.
Take the tech sector, for example. For a software company with many international developers, we focus on terms like “consulting,” “testing,” “delivering,” and understanding feedback during a code review. We use examples from their Jira tickets or Slack communications. This makes the learning immediately useful.
In the hospitality and service industries, the focus is very different. There, everything revolves around hospitality. How do you greet a guest? How do you politely handle a complaint without immediately saying “no”? How do you explain what’s on the menu? By role-playing these situations, employees gain the confidence they need to provide that 5-star service in Dutch as well.
Whether you’re a tech startup in the heart of Amsterdam or a pharmaceutical company outside the city, we ensure that the course material aligns with your team’s professional experience.

FAQ
Absolutely. Language is the key to culture. By understanding the language, employees also better understand the jokes, the news, and the conversations during lunch breaks. This greatly reduces feelings of isolation and fosters a sense of belonging.
Absolutely. Learning together creates a shared experience. Colleagues see each other in a vulnerable, learning role. When you struggle together with the “G” sound, it creates a bond that goes deeper than just work-related tasks. It strengthens mutual trust.
Yes, it breaks down “silos.” We often see backend developers suddenly speaking with sales colleagues in Dutch during the course. People who otherwise barely speak to each other now have a common goal. Those connections persist after class.
It’s essential. Without language, you’ll always remain a bit of an outsider. With language—even basic knowledge—you show goodwill and interest in your new home country. This is greatly appreciated by Dutch colleagues and clients, which speeds up integration.
That’s exactly what it’s for! Our focus is on building the confidence to speak. Being able to ask “How was your weekend?” in Dutch, or join in a conversation about the weather, works wonders for the atmosphere on Monday morning at the coffee machine.
Yes, don’t underestimate this. It’s about the gesture and making it accessible. A simple “good morning,” “enjoy your meal,” or “have a nice weekend” in Dutch already brings a smile and creates a connection. It takes the edge off communication.
Employees feel valued when the employer invests in them. This directly translates into higher engagement and loyalty to the company. They see that you believe in their future in the Netherlands.
By breaking down language barriers together, you also improve general communication skills. People learn to listen to each other better, be patient, and understand each other’s cultural backgrounds. This directly benefits collaboration in project teams.
Check the checklist in this article. Pay particular attention to the “click” with the company, the teachers’ experience (ask for resumes!), and the ability to customize the program. Cheap providers often supply students; for business impact, you need professionals.
At MoreThanLes, these are exclusively certified teachers with at least 10 years of experience. They are confident, have a sense of humor, and understand the business context.
In addition to the basics (grammar, vocabulary), we focus primarily on practical skills. How do I conduct a phone call? How do I handle Dutch directness? How do I write a short email? And, of course, industry-specific jargon relevant to your company.
For companies, yes. In open enrollment, your employees are seated among random tourists and students. In an in-company Dutch group course, they learn with colleagues (in a safe and relevant environment), the content is tailored to your work (immediately applicable), and they don’t lose any travel time.
We use interim evaluations and, more importantly, real-world scenarios. Can they now handle that customer conversation? Do they feel confident starting a presentation in Dutch? We provide regular progress updates to HR or the team lead.
It significantly lowers the barrier for employees. They no longer have to travel after work. It’s “part of the job.” Plus, you can practice right in the workplace: “What is this device called in Dutch?”
This is language training organized exclusively for your employees, often at your own office. The content, pace, and goals are fully tailored to your organization’s needs.
It’s very simple: we conduct an intake to determine the levels, create a customized plan, schedule the lessons in consultation with you (often during or immediately after work hours), and get started. You provide a room and coffee; we take care of the rest.
Our prices are fair and in line with market averages, especially considering the experience of the instructors you’ll be bringing on board. A full in-company Dutch group course (for a group of up to 8 people) starts at €3,870. With a full group, that works out to just about €485 per employee for the entire program. This includes course materials, preparation, and travel expenses within our focus regions.
A standard program lasts an average of 12 to 14 weeks. We recommend weekly 2-hour sessions (for example, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM or during lunch break). This schedule has proven ideal: frequent enough to retain the material (“spaced repetition”), but not so intensive that it conflicts with sprints, releases, or busy shifts at the hotel.
Very quickly. Since we aren’t tied to semesters, we can often start within a few weeks once the groups have been formed and the intake is complete.
We come to you! We’re right at home with various international companies, especially in the Amsterdam, Schiphol-Rijk, Hoofddorp, and Utrecht regions.
Prefer online because your team works partly remotely? No problem—our online lessons are just as energetic and interactive as the in-person sessions, thanks to smart use of breakout rooms and digital tools.
